We offer moose watching and canoe trips as guide services for tour buses. We have been doing these trips for several years and have a team of guides and helpers to make them run smoothly and comfortably for your guests.
The canoe trips are about 3 hrs total from the time we depart Rangeley until we return. We generally canoe a section of the Dead River that is flat water from Eustis Village into the beginnings of Flagstaff lake. We are on the water for a total of 1 to 1.25 hours (and as short as 45 min if the wind is at our backs).
This is a "sunrise" trip and has a start time of 6:00 am.
As I'm sure you are familiar with, most of our tour guests are retirees. We understand that challenge and have found this section of river a very good length for them to achieve without too much fatigue.
For bus tours we have a maximum of 11 guests to 1 guide. We hire a helper for handling the canoes as well as helping the guests in and out of the canoes.
For a group of 20+ it is $20 per person for the entire bus.
(35 on coach then 35 X $20) regardless of participation numbers.
Small groups 12-19 $400.
Step on guided moose watching
I provide a step on guided moose watching tour. We usually meet your tour at the place of lodging, do a introduction and a short 5 min talk to get our guests thinking of moose. At that point we load the coach and begin our search. The tours are generally 2 hrs before sunset but we occasionally do mornings, from 1/2 hr before sunrise. There is never a guarantee of seeing moose but over the years we generally have had sightings 95 percent of the time. With that said there are better days and times of the year to see moose than others. Monday thru Thursday are prefered days. We have seen less moose from the coach Friday's thru Sunday's as well as holiday weekends. Please contact me for more info on when the best times of the year to see moose may be.
The price for the guided moose watch step on coach tour is $150.
Guided moose watch coach tour with moose calling demonstration
As an addition to the Moose Watch: Meet 2012 World Champion Moose Caller runner-up and 2015 3rd place winner, Master Maine Guide Matt Tinker. Before the Moose Watch, I will spend time demonstrating the many ways to call moose while telling exciting stories about moose and their antics. I will also teach the crowd how to call moose or make a moose call at home. Their will be moose artifacts available for the guests to see and interact with. This adds an additional 45 min to the beginning of an evening trip.
Guided moose watch coach tour with moose calling demonstration, $200
I am currently booked for the Maine Moose hunt September 23 - Oct. 2 and October 18 - 15. The moose hunt for the Rangeley area is October 10 - 15.
There are a couple of other guides that work with me to fill in on the moose watch when needed. If your tour falls within these dates let me know, and we will do our best to get a guide for you.
